Florida for a Wedding

Last week I went to Sarasota, Florida for my high school friend Andy G’s wedding. My first bachelor party (although I have been to bachelorette parties), eating fried gator, getting slizzered - good times.

One of the beaches was apparently made of crushed quartz - the sand is pure white and cool to the touch even on a warm day. It adheres to itself like baking soda so it doesn’t get everywhere, but brushes off like regular sand. I want a sandbox full of it at home.

The bachelor party was a limo party bus - 13 guys and lots of booze. We were trashed before we even hit the first bar, a pretty slick cigar bar in St. Petersburg. There was a few bruises and someone got kicked in the eye, but Liz had given us very strict instructions that Andy was not to be damaged above the neck, and since any sane person would be very scared to cross both Liz (and her equally amazing sister Kat), we made sure to follow suit. Nothing like standing in a rest stop parking lot while the bus driver bleaches and hoses out the bus to encourage male bonding.

Barbs packed his radar detector, and again I was reminded that in relative terms, I’m actually a very safe driver. It was really awesome not having to drive and saving a ton of money on a car rental. While I haven’t fallen off of Brent’s roof every time I’ve seen Barbs, good stories not appropriate for public broadcast always ensue, and usually nobody even gets hurt!

It was also great to see Andy’s mom, who was like a second mother to me while I was away at boarding school. She’s dealt with more than most moms ever had to with grace and a smile.

I couldn’t be happier for Andy - Liz and her family are wonderful people, and they’re bound to have a lifetime of happiness.
